Chandigarh Gets Its First Electric Bus

The pollution level has increased so much that it has become difficult to even breathe in it, and petroleum prices have also started touching the sky; in such a situation, running an electric bus on the roads in Chandigarh is no less than a boon. Private group will operate it

According to UT, non-polluting electric buses will be run, and the private groups will operate them. Three companies submitted proposal forms for this electric bus, out of which Ashok Leyland had the lowest bid, resulting in a contract for eco-friendly buses to Ashok Leyland. This contract is for ten years, and this contract has been fixed according to the kilometer scheme.

The contractor will be responsible for the maintenance of the electric bus

According to the contract, the successful bidder is responsible for all maintenance costs, bus charging stations, suspension, HVAC system, and significant and minor bus repairs during the contract duration. In addition, the department would pay the enterprise Rs60 per kilometer.

The city’s first electric bus, according to Transport Director UmaShankar Gupta, arrived today. It would be used for a trial period. He claimed that the first 19 buses would come on September 30 and the remaining 20 in October and that electric buses would follow in October.

You can enjoy traveling up to 130 km from this electric bus

The bus will go almost 130 kilometers after being fully charged, and it will take 2-2.30 hours to charge the bus fully.

The Centre approved 80 electric buses for the UT under Phase II of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) scheme in September. In the first phase, the UT issued tenders for the purchase of 40 buses.

The acquisition of the buses will help the UT Administration realize its goal of replacing the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking’s (CTU) complete fleet of regular buses with electric buses. The CTU now operates 514 buses, with 361 buses serving local and suburban routes and 153 buses serving interstate routes.
