The Punjab government earlier released the calendar of holidays for 2023, in which they also announced the public holidays on 23 march. The Chandigarh administration declared the holiday on 23 march, on the day of shaheedi diwas. This day marks the efforts made by bhagat singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
“23 March 2023, Wednesday will be considered a Public Holiday in all boards, corporations, government offices, and industrial establishments under the Chandigarh administration to mark the shaheedi diwas of bhagat singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
Holiday on 23 March
All offices and educational institutions in Chandigarh will remain closed on 23 march 2023. On Tuesday, 21 march 2023, the chief minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, declared a public holiday in the state on 23 march to mark the shaheedi diwas of bhagat singh.
In Vidhan sabha, Bhagwant Mann said that the holiday on 23 march would allow the people of Punjab to visit the khatkar kalan, which is the ancestral village of the legend bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru in order to pay homage.
Shaheedi diwas marks the efforts of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
Bhagat Singh, called Lyallpur, was previously born in Banga village of Lyallpur Faisalabad, that are considered in the province of Pakistan’s Punjab, in 1907.
He was a revolutionary freedom fighter and a charismatic Indian socialist whose two dramatic, violent acts against the British and execution in India at the age of 23 years. With this, he comes out as the folk hero of the Independence movement of India.
Bhagat Singh, who was hanged in Lahore jail along with Sukhdev and rajguru on 23 march 1931, left strong effects for their whole life. He sacrificed his complete life for the nation, and 16 years after his death, India finally got freedom.
Punjab CM urge people to wear yellow
A resolution to set up the Bhagat Singh and BR Ambedkar statues was passed in the Punjab assembly. On 16 March, Bhagwant Mann took the oath of chief minister of Punjab in a grand event organized at khatkar khan, the ancestral village of this legend.
In the video message, the CM mann released that he invited people of the state to this grand oath ceremony. Through this video, he urge the men to wear the yellow color turbans and women to wear the yellow dupattas at this ceremony. The yellow color shows the spirit, revolution, and sacrifice made by bhagat singh. It also aligns to greet the spring season.

Earlier, the Punjab CM Bhagwan Mann announced that he would launch the anti-corruption helpline of the state on shaheedi diwas to allow the people to expose the officials of corruption. People are allowed to upload videos of corrupts who asks for a bribe or involves in other malpractices. CM Mann said that the AAP government comes out of the corrupt system and not allows the people to be harassed.
