A New Phase Of The Public Bike-Sharing Project In Chandigarh

The UT administrator banwarilal purohit and the Punjab governor launched the Punjab bike-sharing project phase III and added the 1250 bicycles at the new 155 docking stations to the current fleet.

The smart city project of Chandigarh was started in December 2020 with a pilot phase that compromises 25 docking stations and 250 bicycles, followed by phase 1 in august 2021 with 155 docking stations and 1250 bicycles.

When the project phase 2 starts

Project phase 2 Chandigarh was started in February 2022, with the addition of 155 docking stations and 1250 bicycles to the fleet.

  • As many as 3750 bicycles are available at more than 465 docking stations across to city with the phase 2 launch.
  • Users can choose the cycle for Rs 10 for half an hour from any of the docking stations, whereas the charge will fall down RS 5 per hour for the annual membership of Rs 500.
  • The users are able to use the bicycle after registration on the app “SmartBike.”
  • This project was launched at raj Bhawan, where the adviser to UT administrator Dharam pal, nitin kumar yadav, local government, Praveer Ranjan, chief general manager, smart bike ltd, etc., were present.

What is the benefit of the phase 3 project?

Under the benefits of the phase 3 bike sharing project, the CEO of smart city Chandigarh, anindita mitra, clear that there are more than 2 lakh registered users who take the 8.30 lakh rides covering the 33 lakh km.

A great achievement has been made with 750 tonnes plus CO2 emissions saved. It reduces air pollution and promotes a healthy lifestyle among the people living in Chandigarh.

How does the phase 3 project reduce the air pollution

The CEO of Chandigarh city, named anindita mitra, says that the app can gain more than 2 lakh users, whereas the 8,30,000 rides are able to cover the 33,00,000km that have been taken.

  • It shifts the city down to 750 plus tone CO2 emissions between December 2020 and January 2023.
  • On this, the purohit congratulates Chandigarh smart city and says that the public bike-sharing project is a step to take in the right direction to promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce air pollution among the Chandigarh city residents.
  • As per the 4th phase, the count is predicted to go up to 617 docking stations and 5000 bicycles.
  • With the current rollout of phase 3 and phase 4, that slat for April 2022, the agency has brought the extension till September 2022.

Total 1200 rides every day

In the previous year, there are more than 1.5 lakh users downloaded the smart bike mobile application. On average, an estimated 1200 rides every day are taken. This number is moved up to 1600 on public holidays.
