Wickremesinghe kicked off India’s two-day visit that begins on Thursday and expects to bring new momentum to bilateral ties. India gives financial assistance to Sri Lanka at a rate of USD 4 billion, including lines of credit to buy fuel and food, during the economic crisis. New Delhi gives guarantees to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and gives support to the country by securing a bailout package of USD 2.9 billion.

During the first day visit, the present was called by the external affairs minister because they needed to discuss the various bilateral issues between both countries.
