From April 1, Chandigarh to scrap all govt. vehicles over 15 yrs old

There are notifications come from the union ministry of road transport and highways that all government vehicles, including buses of Chandigarh, and vehicles attached to municipal corporations that are from more than 15 years, will be scrapped from April 1

The official of the UT transport department said that they prepared the list for all vehicles to be scrapped. It will also help to reduce the emission of pollutants from worn-out vehicles.

What does the national vehicle scrappage policy?

Under the national vehicle scrappage policy, the administration will offer you up to a 25 % rebate on road tax on new vehicle registration that is bought after the scrapping of new vehicles.

According to this, commercial vehicles of age of more than 15 years will be scrapped mandatorily if these are not passed to emission or fitness tests.

Vehicle scrapping centre

The Chandigarh policy has the provision of concession in tax on buying new vehicles against the submission of a deposit certificate that will be issued by a registered vehicle scrapping facility.

The concession in tax is lain up to 25% will be given in case of non-transparent vehicles and up to 15% in terms of transport vehicles. However, the concession is available for up to 8 years in terms of transport vehicles and 15 years in terms of non-transport vehicles. There are no concessions provided in tax after the expiry time.

  • No registration fees while buying vehicles
  • Owners can get scrap value of around 4 to 6 % of the ex-showroom cost of a new vehicle, and the state is to provide 15 % and 25% rebates on road tax for commercial and personal vehicles.
  • The official of this policy also said that the private company had given the approval to set up the vehicle scrapping centre in industrial areas in phase 1, which will make operational from April 1, 2023
