Dr.Samir Shah- Set to take over as new BBC chairman

Recently, the UK government named Indian-origin media executive Dr Samir Shah as the candidate for the new BBC chairman. Samir Shah is a 71-year-old man born in Aurangabad and moved to England in 1960. He previously worked at BBC as head of political programs and current affairs. He replaced Richard Sharp, who was forcefully resigning after communicating with PM Boris Johnson under scrutiny.

Who is Dr Samir Shah

The owner and CEO of Juniper, a radio production company and independent television company, Dr. Samir Shah, worked as executive director of BBC from 2007 to 2010. He was honored with the Commander of Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, CBE, in 2019 by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to heritage and television.

He has more than 40 years of experience in journalism and TV. He was also called the race relation expert in Oxford University alumnus in 2021. His name also came on a three-member panel set by the government to review the unrest that happened in Leicester City last year. A community group clashed in the aftermath of the India- PAK cricket match. The half-brother of Shah, Mohit Bakaya al, works as a veteran at BBC. He controls the BBC Radio 4.

BBC chairperson role

As BBC chairman, he will attend the 3 days a week function. Shah can be liable for upholding and protecting the taxpayer-funded license cost-operated public broadcaster and making sure it fulfills its project to “tell, train and entertain.” He will also lead negotiations with the authorities over the future of the license rate.

Before taking the fee, a pre-appointment scrutiny may be performed in which pass-party MPs of the House of Commons Media Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee can quiz Dr Shah. “With a 40 + years of experience of Dr Samir,” UK Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer stated on Wednesday, confirming the choice as consistent with the appointment manner.

What does Samir Shah say?

Samir Shah said that if I am able to put my experience, knowledge and skills on public broadcasting service, I built my course more stronger, use experience of my career, and helps various organizations to meet the demanding and challenging situations in their workplace. He gives such statement after announcement that he will take over the BBC chairman role. He also said further that I will do all I can to make sure it fulfils this in more and more competitive market.
