Construction of a 66kV substation at the Chandigarh Housing Board IT Park on 124 acres

Chandigarh Housing Board’s (CHB) revised plans for its public housing self-financing scheme have been approved by the UT Urban Planning Department. Chandigarh’s state environment assessment authority (SEIAA) received the application for environmental clearance in March of this year.

UT advisers started to develop a road map in April for different departments to follow, and CHB vowed to launch the project by the end of the month. When it was first submitted, the application was not approved; however, after resubmitting it with all of the required documents, the environment evaluation committee reviewed the application on its merits for SEIAA approval.

Multiple projects going on the land

Multiple projects are going on the land, and this led to the need to build a substation. Several projects such as-

  • Approximately half a dozen housing societies
  • Hotels
  • Hospitals and
  • Commercial areas
  • Compression natural gas pumps and
  • Dedicated fire stations are slated for the land.
  • Power will no longer be drawn from the area right near the substation when the substation is built, thereby helping the entire city.

Project site visit by The Chandigarh Housing Board Adviser

The site was visited on Tuesday by Dharam Pal, an adviser to the UT and chair of the CHB. Plots 1 and 2 in IT Park are designated for public housing on an approximate area of 16.6 acres. Seven hundred and twenty-eight dwellings are planned.

The adviser inspected properties at Manimajra and Kajheri while examining empty commercial properties in Sector 61. He instructed officials to bring this matter before the board at its next meeting on September 8 since these properties were built over 20 years ago and could not be sold despite repeated inquiries. The exemption is given to Chandigarh Housing Board from Construction Ews houses.

Market estimates suggest a four-bedroom flat will cost approximately 2.75 crores, and a three-bedroom apartment will cost around 1.9 crores, a two-bedroom flat will cost about 1.3 crores. The program was approved by Singh Badnore, UT’s administrator VP, after he saw a presentation on July 21.

An exemption has been granted from building EWS houses in this pocket, provided that CHB builds EWS houses in an adjacent location until 15% of the dwelling units have been constructed. Sector 54 is slated to be developed for EWS flats. The land has already been allotted but will not be handed over possession until the housing board has been given encumbrance-free title.

CHB planning to go ahead with the housing project

Chandigarh Housing Board will construct flats for the governments of Punjab and Haryana and buildings for their legislators. Also discussed was the 123-acre land, and M. Dharam Pal asked the officials to begin the construction as soon as possible. Commercial properties, hospitals, hotels, and other commercial activities at the site should have a reserve price.

Conclusion

The Chandigarh housing board previously installed a total of 11 VK substations.
