In a primary setback to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which was going to fight the Lok Sabha election In the city for the first time, its candidate, Hardeep Singh Saini, who is a three-time councilor and city SAD president, has resigned from the party.
However, Hardeep, who comes from Butrela village, has no longer revealed his next pass, and sources told Chandigarh Tribune that he was probably going to enroll in the BJP. If this occurs, then it would be a large guide for the saffron party from Ward Number 30, represented by Hardeep.
Hardeep Singh, 41, a 3-time councilor, was to face the BJP’s Sanjay Tandon and Congress’s Manish Tewari. This was the first time that the SAD determined to contest the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat.
SAD chief Sukhbir Badal had introduced Hardeep Singh as the party’s Chandigarh candidate on April 22. Hardeep Singh’s father, Gurnam Singh, and brother, Malkiat Singh, were elected as councilors of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (CMC) earlier. In 2018, Hardeep Singh was selected as the chief of SAD Chandigarh. He runs a tent business.
Why Hardeep Singh quit the party
While addressing a press conference, Singh said he took this decision because he was not part of the party and was facing a lack of budget to contest the Lok Sabha elections. The 41-year-old Hardeep Singh, a resident of Buterla and a 3-time councilor, was pitted in opposition to BJP’s Sanjay Tandon and Congress’s Manish Tewari.
“The cause in the back of the returning the party ticket and to quit is the party’s indifference closer to Chandigarh’s unit and us. The party promised to take care of his compaign. It’s been over a fortnight but no senior party chief has come right here, there’s no aid. It’s not a municipal election that can be fought personally. The election of MP is fought at party level,” he said.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Hardeep Singh stated, “They were now not even supporting… ehni berukhi party di.
“For the last 15 days, I was going from residence to house and work hard… Is this the way a candidate is handled by the party while one is nominated from a constituency like Chandigarh?” he quipped.
Voted for BJP in mayoral poll
Despite the fact the two parties had ended their alliance, the lone SAD councilor had voted for the ruling BJP in the current mayoral poll. However, Hardeep voted for the BJP’s applicants for all three posts of mayor, senior deputy mayor, and deputy mayor this year.
Conclusion
Announcing his resignation at a press convention at Press Club here these days, Hardeep, while introducing himself as a poor farmer’s son, said, “When my name was being finalised, I had told the party that the MP poll was a massive election compared to the MC poll and he could want the party help. However, on the grounds that the party continues to be adopting a callous mindset closer to Chandigarh, I together with my team resigned from the SAD and also returned the party ticket.”
