Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first underwater metro path in Kolkata 06 March, marking a massive milestone in infrastructure development. This underwater service is part of the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of the Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor, spanning 16.6 km under the Hooghly River.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated India’s first underwater metro offerings, an engineering wonder in itself. Connecting Howrah and Salt Lake, the twin cities of West Bengal’s state capital, the metro direction functions three underground stations. Notably, it’s predicted to traverse a 520-meter stretch under the Hooghly River in a mere 45 seconds.

Shortly after, the Prime Minister took an experience on the underwater metro line with students, accompanied by way of state BJP President Sukanta Majumder and Bengal’s Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. As per Ministry of Railways, 10.8 kms of route will be addition, even 5.75 kms are increased. The ministry said that this project would reduce site visitor traffic in Kolkata.
Notably, a historic test run of two six-educate metro trains below the Hooghly River’s underwater tunnel was performed with the aid of Kolkata Metro’s closing year. Originally slated for final touch through December 2021, the project encountered delays attributed to accidents for the duration of tunneling work in principal Kolkata’s Bowbazar.

The Prime Minister, who arrived in the country’s capital on March 4, visited the Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan, wherein Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj, the president of Ramakrishna Math and Mission.
