How many phases are planned in Metro Link proposal? After the 5 years, UT administration has scrapped the project, RITES ( Rail India Technical and Economic services ) has proposed the metro link implementation to decongest traffic in tricity.
Work are already allot by UT administration to prepare the comprehensive mobility plan ( CMP) to RITES in march, and suggested this proposal as the best option for public transport in Chandigarh.
The proposal of metro link system are implemented in two different phases. Read the article to know about two phases, and how this proposal will be implemented according to phases.
How the metro link proposal are implemented
According to the draft submitted to UT administration, a 64 KM metro link proposal has proposed by RITES to meets the demand of travel in major directions in tricity, Chandigarh. On the basis of data analysis and primary surveys, PSU ( Public sector undertaking ) has proposed the metro link to implemented in two different phases.
- First phase
The first phase consists the 3 corridors in tricity with total 44.8 Km length. Out from this, 16 km of metro station in Chandigarh may underground and rest 28.8 km will be elevated.
This proposed corridor system in phase 1 will be between the IT park and sarangpur on Madhya marg and some cover places such as Panjab university, Khuda lahora, sector 8,7 and 26, and housing board chowk. With the total length, 7.3 km may underground, and remaining 10.5 km will be elevated.
- Second phase
The second phase corridor with total 10km length will cover the Himalayas Marg. The train will be start running from sector 1, covering sector 17, and terminating at sector 51. With the total length, 8.7 may underground and remaining 1.3km will be elevated.
This proposed corridor covers the sector 26, IT park, Vikas marg, Purv marg, and sector 38 of west to Dadu Majra. The entire 17 km track distance will be elevated. In this phase, the metro link has proposed to extend the 6.5km to panchkula and 13km to Mohali.
The good thing is that the metro will only run on elevated tracks in both cities, Mohali, and panchkula, according to the Metro link proposal.
Why required fast mobility in Chandigarh
With the new proposed metro link station, there is huge need to adopt fast mobility due to following reasons.
- As the population of UT increase, the number of vehicles used by people are also increased. Also, the nearby towns and areas are rise in population, and lead the great pressure on the public transport system in Chandigarh
- This tricity has high per capita income in world. Because the public transport system are not robust due to high population, most people using their own vehicles, that lead the Road congestion and increase the travel time
Conclusion
A metro link system has been proposed with the aim of decongesting traffic in tricity, Chandigarh. This plan of this metro link proposal will be done to integrate the mobility plan and determine the mix of multi model public transport network.
