The Health Secretary of Chandigarh, Yashpal Garg, write a letter to Vivek Lal to open the Jan Aushadhi Kendra in the UT emergency block. It is beneficial because several patients can benefit from medicines available at Jan Aushadhi Kendra.
PGI Initiates Process to Establish Jan Aushadi Shop Location
PGI start the procedure to find the place close to PGI emergency block to open the new Jan Aushadhi Kendra. Near to emergency block, there is no generic medicines center where the cost of the medicine is low as 50-90% of expensive medicines. Unlike generic medicines, Jan Aushadhi medicines are checked by GOI for quality.
The PGI sources have informed us that the process to determine the suitable site for Jan Aushadhi Kendra has been started. The officials in PGI said that they have to find a place near to emergency block.
How many chemist shops in PGI
In the previous three months, Jan Aushadhi shops of PGI sold 70lakh worth of medicines, according to PGI records. There are a total of 19 chemist shops available in PGI, and the rent of the shop for the month is around 1.5 crore.
From the total 19 drugs PGI stores, two shops are available at free rent for Jan Aushadhi Kendra. On Monday, the health secretary of Chandigarh, Yashpal Garg, requested to PGI director to open the new Jan aushadhi Kendra in the emergency block.

Earlier, the Union Minister of State for Family and health welfare, Dr. Bharti Pravin Pawar, visited PGI in May to express the mandate of GOI that opened more than 9k such Jan Aushadis meant for accessibility and affordability with good quality and low cost.
Who visits the Jan Aushadhi Kendra?
According to the Ministry of Family and health welfare, the Jan Aushadhi Kendra is visited by more than 20 lakh people. The app, named ” Jan Aushadhi Sugam,” was launched to make people aware of medicine with salt to make a choice considered between branded and generic medicines.

Earlier, only a single Jan Aushadhi Kendra was available in the PGI emergency block. The PGI emergency block has allotted the chemist shop by tender at 6.7 lahks per day. All of us know that number of patients come to PGI emergency for treatment and medicine from the same chemist shop.
Because of the nonavailability of one Jan Aushadhi Kendra in the PGI emergency block, patients are forced to purchase expensive medicines. In this case, the health secretary of Chandigarh, Yashpal Garg, asked the PGI director to get placed in the emergency block and open a new PM Jan Aushadhi Kendra.
Four more hospitals in Chandigarh open Jan Aushadhi Kendra
The Health Department of Chandigarh has taken the important decision to promote PM Jan Aushadhi Kendra. UT health secretary Yashpal Garg told that earlier, there was only one Jan Aushadhi Kendra in GMCH-32 and GMCh-36 government hospitals. In this case, due to only having two Jan Aushadhi Kendra, the needy and economically weak patients are unable to get medicines at affordable prices.
Because of the nonavailability of one Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Chandigarh and 100-bed hospitals, patients are unable to buy medicines in their range. So, the health secretary, Yashpal Garg, decided in a meeting that the new Jan Aushadhi Kendra would open in four more hospitals in the city.
Hospitals where the new Jan Aushadhi Kendra opens
The Health Secretary told that the Jan Aushadhi Kendras will open for the well-being of patients. The four more Jan Aushadhi Kendra will open in Sector 22 in the civil hospital, sector 45 in the civil hospital Manimajra and civil hospital, and Sector 48 city hospital. The reason is that there was only a single Jan Aushadhi Kendra center here earlier, due to which patients face difficulty in getting medicines at cheap rates.
To solve the problem patients face while buying expensive medicine from the same chemist shop in Chandigarh, and the health secretary made the decision to open four new Jan Aushadhi Kendra.
