Bhajanlal Sharma is the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Who the BJP Has Chosen

It seems that the BJP has appointed fresh faces to important posts in the states it won in the heartland, but its biggest surprise is reserved for Rajasthan. The party’s state general secretary and a first-term legislator from Sanganer, Bhajanlal Sharma, was chosen chief minister of Rajasthan. Prem Chand Bairwa and Diya Kumari, who ran for chief minister, will now serve as deputy chief ministers.

Mr. Sharma, who has been a member of the Rajasthan Party for a long time, is completely at odds with Vasundhara Raje, who has been the party’s head of state for three terms.

Despite his lifelong reclusiveness, the 56-year-old has connections to the ABVP, the student organization of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the party’s ideological leader.

Unlike Ms. Raje, who had disagreements with party officials on occasion, he is regarded as an effective party organizer.

This announcement came nine days after the party’s decisive victory in the Assembly elections, which saw them unseat the sitting Congress headed by Ashok Gehlot. Following Sharma’s appointment, Gehlot and senior BJP politician Vasundhara Raje will no longer alternate as the state’s governor, a practice that has persisted for 25 years.

Sharma was named chief minister after the BJP parliamentary party meeting in Jaipur. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh presided over the meeting, which was attended by the three key observers from the party. The other two onlookers are Vinod Tawde and Saroj Pandey. During the meeting, Raje, who was seated next to Rajnath, proposed Sharma’s name, and the party’s MLAs gave their approval.

Sharma is a Brahmin, yet the BJP has chosen a tribal politician named Vishnu Deo Sai to be chief minister of Chhattisgarh (59 seats) and an OBC named Mohan Yadav to be chief minister of Madhya Pradesh (58 seats).

Even though the BJP did not propose anyone for chief minister of Rajasthan during its campaign, Raje, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Ashwini Vaishnaw were among the prominent contenders. A total of 115 seats were won by the BJP out of the 199 that were up for grabs. One district decided to postpone voting because a candidate was defeated.

In an interview with the media upon his elevation to the office, Sharma assured the public that the BJP’s expectations of all of the Rajasthan MLAs will be met. As a government, we will support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Rajasthan’s progress across all sectors.

As we approach the Lok Sabha elections in May 2024, the BJP has managed to pull off yet another surprise in its quest to uphold precise caste equations. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has a history of appointing tribal politicians to high positions and an OBC man to the position of chief minister in Madhya Pradesh.

In the most recent assembly elections in Rajasthan, the BJP won a record 115 out of 199 seats, bringing down the government of Ashok Gehlot. Meanwhile, 69 seats were won by the Congress. Due to the death of the Congress candidate, the Karanpur seat was not held during the election.
