PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone to develop the Gorakhpur railway station again at the price of 498 crores on 7 July. This project developed this railway station for the next 50 years, said to railway officials.
Earlier, it was published by a news source that the North eastern railway Zone developed the Gorakhpur junction again to prepare it for upcoming challenges to handle 1.69 lakh passengers in a day.
When this project approved
After the cost of this project was reduced in DPR, a detailed project report, was approved in June. PM Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone to redevelop the Gorakhpur junction and start vande bharat express for Lucknow, said CPRO NER Pankaj Kumar.
How much are the costs of the project
There are around 498 crores invested by railways to redevelop Gorakhpur railway station for the next fifty years. It is the 138-year-old junction that was upgraded many times over the years. It includes the remodeling of the yard in 2013, which commissioned the longest platform in the world.
Currently, the Gorakhpur railway station has the ability to handle 92 750 passengers in a day. Also, the station has a waiting area of 6300 sq mts with a capacity for 3500 passengers.
Structure of Gorakhpur railway station
At hour traffic, this junction is able to handle around 17000 passengers, which is near about 9000 currently.
- The main building of this station will spread across the 17 900 sq mt area, which is double the size of the current area.
- As same as the second entry of Gorakhpur railway station is built on a 7400 sq mts area and spread across the 720 sq mts area.
- There will be 21 escalators and 44 lifts in the station. A ticket booth is constructed in a 300 sq mt area.
- As per the project details of this station, the parking area is able to accommodate 838 vehicles, which is double the number of vehicles parked currently.
- Further, there will be a skywalk that connects the metro station and bus station to this, and reduce the transmit time from ½ hour to 15 minutes.
